Leicester Elementary School students had their own school parade on Thursday.
STEM, Media, Art, Music, and Physical Education specialists collaborated to plan the parade as part of a teaching unit about the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The whole school participated, with each grade level walking around the gym to cheers from the rest of the kids and staff. They made masks, headbands, life-sized puppets, and floats to simulate the “Macy’s Day” experience.
“As we discussed the tradition of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, students liked the idea of celebrating holidays that allow for friends and family to enjoy the day together,” said LES Media Specialist Caryn Levy. “They understood that gift-giving is only a part of celebrating, but holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Hanukkah mean so much more as we take time to be with the people we love.”
