Good morning, BCS Teammates.
With ice and snow continuing to affect travel in multiple BCS districts, Buncombe County Schools will now operate on an asynchronous remote learning day and optional teacher workday today, Tuesday Jan. 7, 2025.
Teachers will post assignments in learning management systems by 10 a.m. Students will have up to 5 school days to complete assignments. Students will be counted present for the day/class period upon completion of assignments.
For BCS staff, 10 & 11 month employees may work or use accrued leave. 12-month staff may work or take leave with supervisor permission. Staff who are able to complete their job functions from home may work remotely with supervisor permission. Clock in/out on Timekeeper may be done remotely. If taking accrued leave, please log your absence into Red Rover.
Instructional Assistants may work from their school building, remotely (with supervisor permission) or take accrued leave.
Bus Drivers/TSAs must take accrued leave.
Due to the nature of custodial work, custodians who choose to work must do so from their school building.
School Nutrition Staff will report to work. Lunch for the day will be available to eat in the cafeteria between noon to 1:00 pm at the following locations: AC Reynolds Middle School, Black Mountain Primary, Emma Elementary, Estes Elementary, Leicester Elementary, North Windy Ridge Intermediate, and Sand Hill-Venable Elementary. Students are able to eat at no charge at any of the above locations, and parents can purchase a meal for $4.75 if they desire. A la carte items are also available for purchase. These schools should make a plan for cafeteria supervision during this time period.
Employees, please use your best judgment when deciding whether you can safely travel to and from work. If you have any concerns about work or leave, please work with your principal or supervisor directly.
Stay safe, and have a good day!

Hello, BCS families and teammates! Visit bit.ly/BCSlinks to see the latest community resources. #GraceAndStrength #TogetherWeRise

BCS families and teammates, thank you for all of your efforts at home and in the community to recover from the devastation of the hurricane. Our hearts continue to be with you.
We want to let you know Buncombe County Schools will remain closed until it is safe to open. That will require power and water restored to our buildings. We are grateful to the repair crews who are working hard to make that happen. However, there is substantial work to be done. To help families plan, we will give you adequate notice when we know a date when it is safe for Buncombe County Schools to reopen.
Please continue to take care of yourself and your family. Our theme for this year is “Together We Rise” - and recovering for this storm will demonstrate that. Thank you so much!

Based on the Hurricane's tremendous impacts to our families and neighborhoods, the decision has been made to close all Buncombe County Schools for the entire week, Monday Sept. 30 through Friday Oct. 4. These will be annual leave days for staff. In the days, weeks, and months ahead, the school system is committed to continue supporting our families and staff. We hope you and your family continue to be safe. We'll continue to keep you updated as our team works to safely reopen our schools. Thank you.

As our area continues to cope with impacts of Hurricane Helene, Buncombe County Schools will be closed Mon 9/30 and Tue 10/1. Both days are annual leave days. As our school system continues working with local emergency management officials, we will keep you updated about schedules for the coming days. Please stay safe!

School consolidation study surveys are open through Sept. 30. Scroll down to "NEWS" for more info.

Good morning, Leicester Wildcat families! We wanted to let you know of an important week for our bus riders coming up September 23rd-27th. It is the week that we have our annual ridership count. I am attaching a letter from our Director of Transportation, Jeremy Stowe. I know that at the beginning of the year, there were some concerns with students getting home much later via some lengthy routes, but that has really cleared up now with the addition of an extra driver. We would love for you to rethink how students get home as many of our routes are shorter than they used to be. Allowing your students to ride our buses would also create a positive ripple effect for our car rider line in the afternoon. With the Edulog app, you can access up-to-date information for where the bus is in relative location to you. Our drivers are friendly and well-trained at getting your students home safely. Each bus has four video camaras which help to maintain a safe and orderly ride for students. If this is something that you would like to try, let us know, and we can begin having your students ride next week. Thank you for all that you do to support our school, our staff, and our students!
